Patong Elephant Hug is a peaceful, safe haven for elephants in the hills above Patong, dedicated to their wellbeing and free from mistreatment. We built the sanctuary around one simple idea: elephants don't need to be ridden, bathed with, or handled to be enjoyed — they need room to roam, and people willing to watch quietly.
Surrounded by natural forest and mud pools, our elephants forage, socialise and cool off entirely on their own schedule. Guests move through the forest on marked trails and gather at a raised bamboo observation deck, where local mahouts explain each elephant's history and behaviour. Nobody enters the water. Nobody climbs on an elephant's back. That boundary is the whole point.
Every program, every day, follows the same non-negotiable standards.
Elephants are never saddled or ridden, at any program, by any guest.
Elephants mud-wallow and bathe alone. Guests observe, they don't join in.
